UNSC grants exemption from sanctions to North & South Korea

  • The UN Security Council has granted an exemption from sanctions to North and South Korea to jointly conduct a survey on reconnecting railways across their border.

New technology to monitor impact of rain & deal with natural disasters

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed a new technology to assess the rise of water level in rivers and reservoirs by rain.
  • The technology, called ‘Impact Based Forecasting Approach’, which shows pre-event scenario, can help state governments to minutely monitor the impact of rain and take real-time decisions.

  • The 21st round of talks between Special Representatives of India and China on the Boundary question began in Chengdu city of China.

Orthognathic Surgery Workshop

  • All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, will organise a two-day workshop in New Delhi on orthognathic surgery which is also called corrective jaw surgery.

MOU, AGREEMENTS & CABINET APPROVALS

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved continuation of ACROSS

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved continuation of the nine sub-schemes of the umbrella scheme “Atmosphere & Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems & Services (ACROSS)” during 2017-2020 at an estimated cost of Rs. 1450 crore.
  • It will be implemented by the Ministry of Earth Sciences through its institutes namely India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service(INCOIS).

Women’s World Boxing Championships

  • MC Mary Kom created history after she defeated Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota by 5-0 in the women’s 48-kilogram light flyweight final of the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.
  • With this, the 35-year-old Indian boxer from Manipur became the most successful boxer in the history to win six World Championships.

Syed Modi International Championships

  • In Badminton, Saina Nehwal and seven other Indian shuttlers will play their semi-final matches of Syed Modi International Championships in Lucknow.
