जिला बिलासपुर 31°12 ' 30 व 31°35 ' 45 डिग्री उत्तरी अक्षांश तथा 76°23'45" ' व 76°55 ' 40 " पूर्वी देशांतर पर बाहरी या निचले हिमालय में स्थित है । उत्तर में इसकी सीमा मंडी व हमीरपुर जिला से , पश्चिम में हमीरपुर व ऊना जिला , दक्षिण में सोलन का नालागढ़ क्षेत्र तथा पूर्व दक्षिण - पूर्व में सोलन व मंडी जिला स्थित हैं ।

बिलासपुर जिला सतलुज नदी के दोनों किनारों पर स्थित है तथा सदूर पूर्व में यह नदी जिला मंडी के साथ सीमा निर्धारित करती है । इस जिला की पूर्व से पश्चिम तक की लम्बाई 51 किलोमीटर तथा उत्तर से दक्षिण की चौड़ाई 43 किलोमीटर है । सतलुज नदी जिला बिलासपुर को प्राकृतिक रूप से दो खंड़ों में विभाजित करती है । सतलुज नदी पूर्व से  पश्चिम की ओर बहती हुई कई घुमावदार रास्तों से निकलकर बिलासपुर को लगभग दो समान हिस्से में बांटती है । 
 

ये दोनों भियाजित खंड प्राकृतिक रूप से कई घाटियों खड्डों व छोटी व ऊँची पहाड़ी  से सुसज्जित हैं । इसके सुदूर पश्चिम में कठार धार तथा पूर्व में नैना देवी धार है । यह जिला सम्पूच रूप से पहाड़ी है , परन्तु कोई भी पहाड़ी या चोटी किसी विशेष ऊँचाई को नहीं हैं । 

इस जिला को समुद्रतल से न्यूनतम ऊँचाई 290 मीटर तथा अधिकतम ऊँचाई 1980 मीटर हैं ।

जिला बिलासपुर में तीन प्रमुख घाटियां हैं: 

1. सतलुज घाटी ( THE SATLUJ VALLEY ) : 
सतलुज नदी जिला बिलासपुर में लगभग 90 किलोमीटर का रास्ता तय करती है जहाँ यह कसोल कस्बे में जिला में प्रवेश कर तथा ' नैला ' गांव में जिला को छोड़कर पंजाब राज्य में प्रवेश करती है । सतलुज घाटी में कई प्रकार की वनस्पति व वन्य जीव पाए । जाते हैं । सतलुज नदी के किनारे अवस्थित गांव खेती व उद्यानों की सिंचाई के लिए व्यापक स्तर पर सतलज नदी के पानी का प्रयोग करते हैं । इस घाटी में और कई छोटी बड़ी खड्डे हैं , जो सम्पूर्ण सतलुज घाटी के लिए जीवन दायिनी हैं । सतलुज घाटी की मुख्य फसलें गेहूं , मक्की व धान हैं । 

2. चैंतो घाटी ( CHAUNTO VALLEY ) : 
भाखड़ा बांध के साथ लगती 13 किलो लम्बी यह घाटी अपनी उर्वरा मिट्टी के लिए प्रसिद्ध है । पैंतो घाटी पंजाब राज्य के साथ लगती शिवालिक क्षेत्र में एक उपजाऊ तथा आर्थिक रुप से समृद्ध घाटी है , जहाँ कृषि व अन्य सहायक गतिविधियों को प्रधानता प्राप्त है । भाखड़ा बांध के निर्माण से बनी गोविंद सागर झील ने इस घाटी की आर्थिक सम्पन्नता में एक नया अध्याय जोड़ा है । गोविंद सागर झील से प्राप्त मछली उत्पादन ने सैकड़ो परिवारों की आर्थिक समृद्धि का मार्ग प्रशस्त किया है ।


3. दानवीं घाटी ( THE DANWIN VALLEY ) :
यह घाटी बहादुरपुर व बांदला घाटी के मध्य स्थित 10 किलो मीटर लम्बी व पाँच किलोमीटर चौड़ी है । यह घाटी , मक्की , धान , गन्ना , अदरक तथा गेहूं फसलों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है । 

District Bilaspur is located in the outer or lower Himalayas on 31 ° 12 '30 and 31 ° 35' 45 ° North latitude and 76 ° 23'45 "'and 76 ° 55' 40" east longitude. Its borders are in the north of Mandi and Hamirpur district, Hamirpur and Una districts in the west, Nalagarh region of Solan in the south and Solan and Mandi districts in the east-southeast.

Bilaspur district is situated on both sides of the river Satluj and in the east, this river determines the boundary with the district mandi. The length of this district is 51 km from east to west and width of 43 kilometers from north to south. Sutlej river naturally divides the district Bilaspur into two rocks. Sutlej river separates from several winding paths flowing from east to west and divides Bilaspur into two equal parts.

Both of these steamships are naturally equipped with many valleys, potholes and a small hill. Kadar Dhar in the far west and Naina Devi Dhar in the east. This district is absolutely mountainous, but no mountain or peak is of any special height.

This district has minimum height of 290 meters and maximum height of 1980 meters from sea level.



There are three major valleys in District Bilaspur:

1. SATLUJ VALLEY:
Sutlej river passes a distance of about 90 kms in Bilaspur district, where it enters the district in Kasol town and enters the state of Punjab in 'Naila' village leaving the district. Finds many types of vegetation and wildlife in the Satluj Valley. Go. The villages located on the banks of the river Sutlej use water from the Sutlej river at an extensive level for irrigation of agriculture and gardens. There are many smaller potholes in this valley, which are life-sheets for the entire Sutlej Valley. The main crops of the Sutlej Valley are wheat, maize and paddy.


2. CHAUNTO VALLEY:
This valley, which is 13 km long along the Bhakra Dam, is famous for its Urwa mud. Panto Valley is a fertile and economically prosperous valley in the Shivalik region, which is adjacent to the state of Punjab, where agriculture and other auxiliary activities are privileged. Govind Sagar Lake, built by the construction of the Bhakra Dam, added a new chapter in the economic prosperity of this valley. Fish production from Govind Sagar Lake has led to the economic prosperity of hundreds of families.


3. THE DANWIN VALLEY : This valley is 10km long and five kilometers wide between the center of Bahadurpur and Bandla valley. It is famous for the valley, maize, paddy, sugarcane, ginger and wheat crops.
