Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a Graduate Degree from a recognized University or equivalent qualification.
Age Limit (as on 01 August 2026)
- Minimum Age: 21 Years
- Maximum Age: 32 Years
- SC/ST: 5 Years Relaxation
- OBC: 3 Years Relaxation
- PwBD: Up to 10 Years Relaxation

- SC / ST / PwBD / Women: No Fee

UPSC CSE 2026 – Preliminary Examination Pattern
The Preliminary Examination is the first stage and serves as a screening test. Marks scored in Prelims are not counted in the final merit ranking.
Prelims Structure
- Paper I: General Studies – 200 Marks – 2 Hours
- Paper II: CSAT (Aptitude Test) – 200 Marks – 2 Hours
Important Rules
- Both papers are objective type (MCQs).
- Paper II is qualifying in nature (Minimum 33% required).
- Marks of Paper I determine cutoff for Mains.
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd marks deducted for each wrong answer.
- No penalty for unanswered questions.
UPSC CSE 2026 – Main Examination Pattern
The Civil Services (Main) Examination is the second stage and consists of a written examination followed by an Interview/Personality Test. Marks obtained in the written papers and interview are counted for the final merit list.
